Convert JSON & API Data to a Spreadsheet

Turn JSON files and API responses into Excel or CSV - flatten nested objects and arrays into the exact rows and columns you need for analysis.

JSON is how APIs and modern apps hand you data, but a spreadsheet is where you actually work with it - sort it, total it, pivot it, or pass it to someone who does not read JSON. The catch is that JSON nests: objects inside objects, and lists of records or line items tucked inside a single field.

This turns those files and API responses into flat Excel or CSV. Nested objects become their own columns, repeating lists are spread into the rows and columns you need, and you get a table shaped the way your next tool expects - no scripts to write and nothing to install.

From a nested API response to flat rows

A short API response with nested objects and a repeating line_items list, shaped three ways depending on what your spreadsheet or import expects.

API response (JSON)

json
[
{
"order_id": "A-1001",
"status": "paid",
"customer": { "name": "Acme Corp", "country": "US" },
"line_items": [
{ "sku": "WIDGET-1", "qty": 2, "amount": 19.98 },
{ "sku": "CABLE-3", "qty": 1, "amount": 4.50 }
]
},
{
"order_id": "A-1002",
"status": "pending",
"customer": { "name": "Globex Ltd", "country": "GB" },
"line_items": [
{ "sku": "WIDGET-1", "qty": 5, "amount": 49.95 }
]
}
]

The same data, shaped several ways

One row per record, dotted columns (CSV)

order_idstatuscustomer.namecustomer.countryline_items.0.skuline_items.0.qtyline_items.0.amountline_items.1.skuline_items.1.qtyline_items.1.amount
A-1001paidAcme CorpUSWIDGET-1219.98CABLE-314.50
A-1002pendingGlobex LtdGBWIDGET-1549.95

Nested objects and each list item get their own dotted-path column (customer.name, line_items.0.amount), and every order stays on a single row - the flat shape most spreadsheets read cleanly.

Repeating list spread into indexed columns (CSV)

order_idcustomer.nameline_items/0/skuline_items/0/qtyline_items/0/amountline_items/1/skuline_items/1/qtyline_items/1/amount
A-1001Acme CorpWIDGET-1219.98CABLE-314.50
A-1002Globex LtdWIDGET-1549.95

The repeating line_items list is spread into indexed columns (line_items/0/amount, line_items/1/amount, ...), one set of columns per position - so orders with fewer items simply leave the trailing columns blank.

Only the fields you need, renamed (custom)

OrderCustomerSKUQuantityAmount
A-1001Acme CorpWIDGET-1219.98
A-1001Acme CorpCABLE-314.50
A-1002Globex LtdWIDGET-1549.95

Only the fields you care about, renamed to your own headers and column order - here exploded to one clean row per line item. That exact selection and layout is a custom converter built for your JSON.

Who uses this

Developers & engineers

Pull a JSON export or an API response into a spreadsheet for a colleague or a report, without writing a one-off flattening script every time.

Data analysts

Get nested API data into flat rows you can pivot, filter, and join - ready for your spreadsheet or BI tool in seconds.

Operations & RevOps teams

Turn responses from your CRM, billing, or internal tools into a clean sheet for reconciliation, audits, and hand-offs.

No-code builders

Take the JSON your automation or webhook produces and drop it into Excel or Google Sheets - no code, nothing to install.

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your JSON

    Upload a .json file or paste the API response - a single object, an array of records, or deeply nested data all work. You can also paste a link to it.

  2. 2

    Pick how it flattens

    Choose the shape that fits - one row per record, or a repeating list spread into indexed columns - so the data lands in the columns your next tool expects.

  3. 3

    Download Excel or CSV

    Get a ready-to-open Excel or CSV file. Nested objects and lists are already flattened into clean rows and columns.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JSON to a spreadsheet?

Upload a .json file or paste your API response, then download an Excel or CSV file. Nested objects and arrays are flattened into flat rows and columns automatically, so a file that was hard to read as JSON opens as a clean table.

Can I turn API data into Excel?

Yes. Paste the response from any API - a single object or an array of records - and get it back as Excel. Repeating lists like line items or results are spread into columns so each record stays readable.

How does it flatten nested JSON into Excel columns?

Each nested field becomes its own column using its path in the header (for example customer.name), and repeating lists are spread into indexed columns (line_items/0/amount, line_items/1/amount, ...). One row per record, however deep the original JSON was.

What is the difference between JSON to CSV and JSON to Excel?

Both flatten the same way - the only difference is the output file. JSON to CSV gives you a plain .csv that imports almost anywhere; JSON to Excel gives you a ready-to-open .xlsx workbook. Pick whichever your next tool prefers.

Is my JSON data kept private?

Files are encrypted in transit, your source data is deleted right after conversion, and results are removed automatically within 24 hours. Your data is never shared.
